  • Please note: As of April 3rd 2018, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates requires all Chinese visa application forms be filled in on the computer. Handwritten forms will no longer be accepted.

The applicant's actual passport. The passport must:

  • Have at least two blank visa pages
  • Be valid six months beyond entry date

One colour, passport type photograph that meets the following strict criteria: be taken within the last three months against a white background and printed on high quality photo paper; be 33mm by 48mm in size; provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression with ears visible. No background light or shadow over your face. You may wear neither spectacles nor headwear except for religious purposes. You may not wear any jewellery including earrings and necklaces regardless of size. You should not wear any garment identical to the photo background. Your photograph should not be affixed to your application and may not display evidence of adhesive or staples


An original employment permit from the country of destination. This permit must:

  • Be issued by the Ministry of Labour or the State Bureau of Foreign Experts of China
  • Be issued in both English and Chinese 

A letter of invitation is required. In order to fulfil this particular requirement the applicant can choose from one of the three options detailed below:


An original letter of invitation from the company to be visited in China. This letter must:


  • Be printed on A4 company letterhead paper
  • Include the fax and phone number of the inviting company
  • Include the full name and address of the inviting company
  • State the applicants full name exactly as it appears on their passport
  • State the applicants passport number
  • State the applicants gender
  • State the applicants date of birth
  • State the relationship between the applicant and the inviter
  • State the applicants source of financial support whilst in China
  • State the date of issue which must include the year
  • Include the date(s) of entry and exit
  • Include the length of stay and number of entries required
  • Specify the place and purpose of the visit
  • Bear the official company stamp
  • State the inviters name as per passport in English and also in Chinese characters
  • Be signed in Chinese characters
  • Be issued within the last three months
  • Not be an email


An original letter of invitation from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. This letter must:


  • Be printed on A4 paper
  • Be issued by a Duly Authorised Unit
  • State the date of issue which must include the year
  • Bear the seal and signature of the inviting unit
  • State the applicants date of birth
  • Be issued within the last three months


An original Confirmation Letter of Invitation. This letter must:


  • Be printed on A4 paper
  • Be issued by an authorised unit in China
  • State the date of issue which must include the year
  • Bear the seal and signature of the inviting unit
  • State the applicants date of birth
  • Be issued within the last three months


Applicants who supply a Confirmation Letter of Invitation must also supply a letter of invitation from the company to be visited in China. A sample Invitation Letter can be found with the Application Pack



First time China Visa applicants born in Hong Kong or China or those who have previously held Chinese nationality need to supply their former Chinese Passport and/or Identity Card plus one copy. Applicants applying for a China Visa for the second or subsequent time must supply their current or former passport with Chinese Visa

Applicants who have never held a Hong Kong ID card must supply a cover letter stating this and explaining the reason why. A copy is acceptable.

The applicants name as stated on the Chinese Passport and/or Hong Kong ID card must be identical to the name on their current passport.    


Family members accompanying the principal Z visa applicant must also include the additional documents:

An accompanying spouse must provide:

  • Their original Marriage Certificate plus one copy

An accompanying child under 16 years of age must provide:

  • Their original long Birth Certificate plus one copy

All applicants between the age of 14 and 70 for Z work visas are required to attend an appointment at the Chinese Visa Application Center in order to submit their biometric data. 

Upon receiving the application, a Universal visas specialist will contact the applicant to arrange the appointment. The Chinese Visa Application Center can only start processing the visa application after the applicant has submitted their biometric data.

Ensure all documents required for processing your application are enclosed prior to mailing; including your passport, Photos, Invitation (depending on the type of visa required) etc.

Post/ Courier all documents via secure delivery method to our address. (We recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery to our PO Box address)
